Generating the right leads

In my last post, I briefly discussed building an audience in social media using the online platform of the web to our advantage. Within those points I mentioned, the first was “Be specific in your marketing efforts.” This can make all the difference in the world.

So once you have chosen your marketing strategy and have launched into the social networking within your demographic and target market, how do you generate more leads?

First, lets clarify that generating leads is more than simply asking for contact information from followers. Shanna Mallon had a great post in SocialMouths Blog that gave great tips for generating more leads in social media. Here are the five points that she suggests to “build a platform, establish expertise, and track results along the way.”

1.    Prove Your Expertise. Your followers need to know that you are the expert in your field. Through blog posts with solid content, you can “demonstrate your authority, and engage with others in a away that means value for your audience.”
2.    Cross-Promote. Make sure you have intertwined all your media to link with one another. Read up on my post on where to start
3.    Engage. Respond to customer questions, reply to posts, and post comments on other articles that pertain to your expertise or industry. Make yourself human and not static while interacting in social media.
4.    Think Offline, Too. Use your connections in the real world to help promote you on social media in the online world.
5.    Track Results. Use Google Analytics or other tracking methods to keep detailed stats on followers, subscribers, responses…etc. This helps you see where you can improve and achieve the best results.

To take this a step further, Scott Monty provided a great infographic on his blog, which can help generate not only leads, but also the right ones.

In essence, treat your business as a person and engage with your followers and potential clients. Make your business personable. Update the content weekly and make it fresh and creative.

Think this out…what engages you online? What makes you come back to a website and interact? Those same reasons are what you need to implement in your social marketing in order to generate solid leads and potential business.
