It is easy to be consumed in social media, since it has become the norm in the United States. According to the Nielsen Social Media Report, Americans spend over 2 billion hours on social media per month

As a society, we are spending more time in the digital world than the real world

Let’s face it, unless you live under a rock (or are Amish) there’s no real way to avoid social media interaction in the digital world (if you’re reading this, you’ve made my point). Even those that have tried to avoid it for so many years have succumbed to its addictive nature.

When communicating in the digital world, there are times when a text or Facebook message can do the trick; other times the phone may be the best option. But, there comes a time when you realize that face-to-face contact is the best option for a specific situation.

Understanding the difference is the critical component, especially in business.

To make a business successful both in the digital and real world, here are a few tips that help determine the best method of contact:

 *i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube…etc

While maintaining that each business offers a different product or service, this chart was created to serve as a broad guide. It varies between the product or service offered, but the main point to notice is that the more sensitive the information exchanged, face-to-face interaction becomes the preferred form of contact.

Technology has given businesses the opportunity to be available anywhere at anytime for customers and their employees. Not using the technology properly can hinder success in business, and even worse, cause poor customer and employee experience.

Quick tip: both of those can affect the bottom line of ANY business!

If you learn to balance social interaction properly between the digital and real world, you’ll keep your customers and employees happy.

Stay relational.
